Independence Day Information from the Shelbyville Police Department
🎆 KNOW THE LAW BEFORE YOU LIGHT THE FUSE! 🎆
As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Shelbyville Police Department wants everyone to have a fun, safe, and legal holiday.
🎇 Consumer Fireworks ARE permitted in Shelbyville during the following times:
📅 June 29 – July 3 and July 5 – July 9
🕔 5:00 PM until two hours after sunset
📅 July 4 (Independence Day)
🕙 10:00 AM until 12:00 Midnight
These dates and times are established by Indiana Code and are adopted by the City of Shelbyville Ordinance (§91.125).
🎆 Before You Celebrate:
✅ Only use fireworks on your own property or on property where you have permission.
✅ Anyone purchasing consumer fireworks must be 18 years of age or older.
✅ Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
✅ Never allow young children to handle fireworks without close adult supervision.
✅ Be courteous to your neighbors, especially veterans, elderly residents, families with young children, and pet owners.
✅ Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Using consumer fireworks outside of the permitted dates and times within the City of Shelbyville may result in enforcement action. Please celebrate responsibly and help us keep our community safe.
